I think the most impressive visual I will retain from this class is the idea of a pile of sand as it grows. Even though Piaget was best known for his stages of learning (sensorimotor, pre-operational, concrete operational, and formal operational), but he knew that learning wasn't merely confined to these hard and fast stages of learning. He believed the stages were demonstrative of the avalanches in the learning, when knowledge has built up so much that the pile of sand has to fall down to get bigger.
